Typoabstract
Artwork created for a joined exhibition called Typoabstact, held at Gallery Å in Oulu. The theme for the exhibition was abstract art using only typography.
Inspiration for the piece came from woodblock type and letterpress printing. I wanted to combine the look and texture achieved with letterpress printing with colors used in modern printers – cyan, magneta and yellow. To be faithful to the art of letterpress, I wanted to use a typeface that was used during the era when this technology was still prominently used in printing. The typeface I chose is Gothic no.13 — a condensed sans serif from the nineteenth century.
The piece was done with acrylics on a polycarbonate panel. As I didn’t have access to a letterpress or woodblock type, I used stamps cut out of pasteboard to achieve the same effect.
